Webcomic Review: Sakana No Sadness!!

Today, I decided to review a webcomic and am I ever glad I did! Thanks to a reader suggestion, I have decided to bring you "Sakana No Sadness" (by Simon H)! What's funny, is I know many, many guys who seem just like the main character, Hideo. Hideo is the stereotypical nerdy guy who lives in his parent's basement. He never leaves and spends his days in the dark surrounded by the soft, artificial glow of a computer screen. Hideo has a robotic assistant named Pin. When a package is delivered one day, Pin is the one to go to the door to receive it. The package is Baking Soda and Hideo is excited beyond all belief. The story shifts to Hideo finishing up his creation: a robot who comes to decide that her name is Sakana.

Sakana's purpose is to be Hideo's "cute...obedient...charming...submissive...kindhearted...unquestioning...requiring no maintenance...demanding no respect..." girlfriend. Little does he know, he's got another thing coming. Sakana is full of sass and no one tells her what to do! She refuses to let Hideo look at her without clothes, refuses to sleep in the same bed as him, and on top of everything else, she INSISTS of Hideo leaving his house (*gasp!*) to go on a shopping trip so she can REMODEL HIS BASEMENT! While at the mall, she shops (on Hideo's parent's credit card, of course) for clothes and interior decorations. While the group is in a comic book shop, two guys are talking about Hideo. They meniton that he isn't "chipped" and that he must have been a shut in when "they united". I'm not sure what this has to do with anything, but I'm sure it's part of the plot for later on. In the end, Hideo ends up passing out (must have been the natural lighting). He awakes to a new home and his collection of anime porn being thrown away. This is as far as the series goes and I want more! The webcomic updates EVERY Monday!

Creativity of Writing: 4/5 This webcomic is GREAT! The idea of the creation rebelling against the master is awesome but then you add the fact that the creation was supposed to be the girlfriend! What a riot! Not only does she question EVERYTHING Hideo says and does, but she starts to make dramatic changes in his life! There's no arguing these changes to her. She's headstrong and stubborn and Hideo is forced along for the ride. The dialogue is clever and easy to follow. I feel like the characters have great personalities that shine individually.

Creativity of Art: 5/5 I really like the artwork in this webcomic. It looks well-developed and like there was a lot of time put into it. I really like the colors. They're bright and exciting, yet the never detract from the composition or line work. They compliment the story and artwork rather than try to hide it. The character designs are interesting and I feel like a lot is said for the comic just by glancing at it.

Overall Casual Read Rating: 5/5 For some reason, I find the combination of all of the elements of this webcomic to be very pleasing. It's very entertaining and very funny. I'm excited to see where the adventures of the crew will go. I'll be tuning in with each new update and if you're smart, you will too! :)

Note to the Creator(s): Simon, I love your work. :) Keep this one going for a VERY long time!
