Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (the book…not the movie!)…I have mixed emotions about it. On one hand, there’s the fact that it satisfied my itch to have more of the story, but on the other hand…I now feel a little empty. The book is AMAZING, don’t get me wrong! I just feel a little let down. I expected a little more…action out of it.
I mean…there IS a fight between Knives and Ramona in a public place…and Scott DOES KINDA fight the second evil ex. But most of it just seemed like...in between…filler, almost. The majority of the beginning of the book is a flashback Scott has of his friend Lisa, meeting her, starting a band, finding a drummer, losing his virginity, and moving away. To me…it’s kind of like the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets...not my favorite.
Anyway…Scott breaks up with Knives (Oh don’t you just love the blackmailing roommate?) and has a clear conscience about dating Ramona. As he prepares to have the band meet Ramona, Knives spies on him through window. She has the sudden urge to bleach her hair (Where ever did she get the idea?) and works on a plan to get Scott back. Part of this plan is apparently taking out Ramona (If I were going to knock someone off, it wouldn’t be in a public library…just saying…) she obviously doesn’t succeed. Her immaturity is blatantly obvious in the note she leaves Ramona (it says something like “You’re fat and I hate you”...). Scott, sitting home alone playing video games, gets a call from the girl that totally shredded his heart a year prior. Enter, Envy Adams. Envy asks Scott to open for her band. This leaves Scott a hollow, empty body. Soon, the group heads to the show where the see Knives with her new fling. It’s discovered that Ramona’s third evil ex boyfriend is the bassist for Scott’s ex girlfriend’s band. Ready for the drama? BOMB BOMB BOMB!
Creativity of Art: Same as my last “Scott Pilgrim Review”. : )
Creativity of Story: 3.5/5 Again…not my favorite. It just didn’t feel action packed enough. Who knows? Maybe it’s just there to progress the story along. I just didn’t connect with this one like I did “Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life”.
Overall Casual Read: 3.5/5
