What’s cuter than a grumpy cat? A grumpy cat that runs a Ramen shop, that’s what! TOKYOPOP announced the release of the comic-like manga back in March of this year (it was released in June). Maybe it’s because I’m a cat person…or maybe it’s because I’m a noodle/rice person, but this is one of the most entertaining books I’ve read lately. Pretty much every strip made me laugh. I think I’m slightly brain-damaged, but this panel had me laughing for at LEAST an hour. Aren’t the little kitty feet SO cute??
So, go to the site (www.neko-ramen.com) and read all of the strips that are available. It’s so worth your time (not that it takes long, anyway!) and it’ll make you feel HAPPY!
Since I’m sending you to read them, I’ll just straight into my review.
Creativity of Art: The art is pretty simple, black and white, bold lines. I feel like the cat’s personality is reflected in the art style. He’s very basic and very set in his ways. It’s funny though, His straightforward personality and his outlook on business and cooking give him one of the most colorful personalities of any comic book animal I’ve ever read.
Creativity of Writing: A CAT? Serving RAMEN?? Health Code violation, HELLO! It’s awesome that no one says anything (well…it’s hard to have someone say something when you’ve only got one obvious customer!) about his bathroom (litterbox) being right in the restaurant, his not wearing gloves, and not wearing a hairnet! Haha. I think the whole idea of taking a cat’s outlook on life and combining it with the stresses of running a business is VERY creative. When that cat has the personality of a grumpy old man, it’s even better.
Overall Casual Read Rating: 10/5 That’s right…double the score possible. It’s THAT funny to me. I’m rating this as high as I can, people. Seriously. Go read it. NOW! It’s a good laugh, a good mood lifter, an easy read.
