Graphic Novel Review: "A Princess of Mars"

Last night I made a visit to my local bookstore, and the cover of this book immediately caught my attention. I think it was the color scheme (being an art lover and all, I'm drawn to nice-looking books). But did I ever learn to not judge a book by it's cover. I read this book in about an hour last night. Before this point, I was not familiar with the story of John Carter. I know, right? GASP! I mean...I'd heard the name and that, I suppose, was my only saving grace. I quick Google search revealed the correlation I suspected in my head: "Hey...this WAS adapted for the movie screen by Disney". Ah-ha! I am ashamed to admit that I've never read "Under the Moons of Mars", but this graphic novel has seriously gotten me interested! I think it's a good intro for people like me who are a little on the Science Fictionally Challenged side (I just made up that condition. You owe me a quarter every time you use it. My paypal account is....nevermind.). In all seriousness, it was great for the purpose of introducing the concept of John Carter's journey...science fiction in general...etc. But that's about where the greatness stops. Except the art. I can't forget the art. That's for later, though.

Webcomic Review: Sakana No Sadness!!

Today, I decided to review a webcomic and am I ever glad I did! Thanks to a reader suggestion, I have decided to bring you "Sakana No Sadness" (by Simon H)! What's funny, is I know many, many guys who seem just like the main character, Hideo. Hideo is the stereotypical nerdy guy who lives in his parent's basement. He never leaves and spends his days in the dark surrounded by the soft, artificial glow of a computer screen. Hideo has a robotic assistant named Pin. When a package is delivered one day, Pin is the one to go to the door to receive it. The package is Baking Soda and Hideo is excited beyond all belief. The story shifts to Hideo finishing up his creation: a robot who comes to decide that her name is Sakana.

Welcome to “Krypto Dies”!

“Krypto Dies” was born about…um…..five minutes ago (not really!) Seriously, though. I love comics. I love the idea that I can use my mind in the same way as I do with a traditional novel but get so much more of what the writer intended. I love the community that comes with comics. I’ve just returned from San Diego Comic-Con and I’m convinced that if Jesus had to return to a certain place at a certain time, it would be San Diego, during Comic-Con.

Every day…EVERY SINGLE DAY, I’ll be reviewing a comic, video game, or other random geeky thing. Why? Because I need something to do. Because I LOVE these things. Also, I’ll need a place to rant when my friends take advantage of the fact that I’m a video game noob. I love being a geek girl and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
