"Special Edition" is a webcomic that I stumbled upon through Drunk Duck ! The very first thing that I noticed was the the art look pretty good for a webcomic. I read a LOT of webcomics and with most of them, the art leaves a lot to be desired. I could have this all totally wrong, but to me, "Special Edition" doesn't seem to follow any certain plot or story. It seems to be a mash-up of different mini-comics. There may be an overall flow of things that I'm missing because of my multi-tasking. If this all goes together, then readers, you are in for a TREAT! I've never seen a webcomic as diverse as "Special Edition". There's pirates, superheroes, a necrophiliac, and lethal injection. There's so much action that your head will explode. I can't really say much in the way of specifics, so I'll just let you read for yourself and see what I thought!
Creativity of Writing: 4/5 I have to admit, nearly every story in the stream of the webcomic is original. If it's been done somewhere before, I haven't seen it. My favorite thing about the webcomic is the subtle humor here and there. It's not slapstick or knock-you-over the-head funny. I also like that things change topic and pace enough. I find it hard to read the thing on my screen over and over, page after page. The dialogue is easy to follow and so are the thoughts. As far as clarity goes, it's very clear and easy to understand.
Creativity of Art: 5/5 I'm very impressed by the artwork. The shading is the thing that I noticed the most. The lines are very clean and the color work is very artfully done. The moods of the comics are represented very well by colors and shapes and tone of the art.
Overall Casual Read Rating: 3.5/5 The elements apart are great, but as far as keeping me entertained I felt it a little hard to get through. It may be that I tackled all the pages at once or that I was multi-tasking. It might be any of a number of things. My review is my impression at this moment in time. I like it, but I feel like something's off. There's nothing wrong with it. I think that it just isn't my type of comic.
