"The God Machine" Preview Review!

Talk about the bomb.com! Every individual aspect of the comic screams "amazing". To me, "The God Machine" by Chandra Free looks like it should have had a team of ten people working on it! I was first drawn to the comic by the cover. Yeah, yeah. I know. Don't judge a book by it's cover. In the case of "The God Machine", it wasn't at all wrong to do so!

I have just read the preview, but the preview has gotten me hooked! I'll be reviewing the full volume shortly. In the preview, we meet a character named "Guy". He is suffering the loss of a character named "Sith". He is enveloped in a completely gothic world and his school is no different. He arrives and is greeted by his two best friends but quickly becomes annoyed by their pity. Because of this death, Guy struggles with day-to-day life. He's constantly hallucinating about monsters and ghouls. When he finally gets to sleep, his dreams are plagued by his late lover who is stolen away and replaced with a demonic figure.

I cannot wait to get my hands on this book!

Overall, I adore what I've seen. The characters are believable, the emotions and dialogue make the characters multi dimensional, and the story taps into something that every human has (or eventually will) experience: loss. I'm very interested to see how Guy will handle his life and if the hallucinations of monsters will become something more. Don't even get me started on the art! HOLY COW, BATMAN! The art looks very traditional (I'm an Art Major...shoot me!). It's VERY well put-together and soothing to look at. The shapes are very soft and organic (flow-y). The characters and scenes seem to have a glow that comes from within. It fits the story and plot VERY well (mythical, paranoral). It's gothic-ly styled without being too over the top (very unlike Gloomcookie). You aren't beat over the head with a specific style. It's ART. It's a comic. It's beautiful. I LOVE it!
